Power tips for bulk find & replace

Beyond basic word swapping, combining escape sequences, whole-word boundaries, and chained rules solves messy formatting tasks in seconds:

  • Convert commas to new lines (or vice versa): With Parse \n & \t enabled, search for , and replace with \n to turn a comma-separated list into lines—or search for \n and replace with , to join lines onto one row.
  • Delete unwanted text: Leave the Replace with box completely empty to strip out every occurrence of the search phrase.
  • Capture groups in Regex mode: Turn on Regular expression to match patterns like dates ((\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2})) and reorder them in Replace with using $3/$2/$1.

Avoiding accidental partial replacements

  • Whole words only: Replacing cat with dog normally turns category into dogegory. Checking Whole words only restricts matches to standalone words bounded by spaces or punctuation.
  • Chained rules order: When using multiple Find/Replace pairs, Rule 2 runs on the output produced by Rule 1. Keep specific phrases above broader single-word replacements.

Frequently asked questions

How do I replace line breaks with commas or spaces?

Keep "Parse \n (newline) & \t (tab)" checked, type \n in the Find box, and enter , (comma + space) in the Replace box.

How do I remove every instance of a word or symbol?

Enter the word or symbol in "Find" and leave "Replace with" blank. Every matching occurrence will be deleted cleanly.

Can I run multiple find-and-replace pairs at the same time?

Yes. Click "+ Add another find/replace rule" to stack up to 12 rules. Each rule executes sequentially from top to bottom.

What Regex flavor does this tool use?

It uses standard ECMAScript (JavaScript) regular expressions with global (g), multiline (m), and optional case-insensitive (i) flags, supporting capture groups like $1, $2, and lookarounds.

What happens if I type an incomplete regular expression?

The tool catches invalid Regex syntax safely and displays a clear inline message without crashing or erasing your input.

Is my pasted text private?

Yes. All search and replacement operations run strictly inside your browser with zero server communication.
